Poor Second Half
After a strong first half, the team had another poor period in the second half when they let in unanswered 24 points. It is something you cannot do against any Top 4 teams. We need to improve our defensive structures with our fringe first grade players. We currently side on the edge of 8 with a lot of work to do and a growing injury toll. We still need 5 more wins to make the finals. Now to play Newcastle who have moved into the Top 4.
Koloamatangi big metres
Keaon Kolomatangi continue to play big minutes, even though he continue to play with a heavily strapped knee. He is playing big minutes at prop, and running near 200m regularly in game. He still has a opportunity for glory in 2026, before he departs next season.
Mazzone triple
Another week and another try feast to Jordi Mazzone on the left wing. From eyes up footy when he darted over from dummy half, to two tries when he finished off tries on the end of a backline move using his speed to score. He has now scored 14 tries and can't be far off a call into first grade.
Taj Alvarez triple and Rooke double
It took a few weeks for Taj Alvarez to step up into U21s, but this weekend was the Alvarez show where he score a hattrick of tries. From backup play, taking intercepts and his speed off the mark and anticpation is great to see. Not to be out done, Harrison Rooke has moved into second row and is working well in defence and attack, scoring two tries. Team is on fire as they push for a top 5 spot.
Womens winning streak ends
After a great start to the season, our womens team unbeaten run came to halt on the weekend, when they had a heavily loss. The girls will regroup need to learn as a group when they play the better teams, going forward.
Jai's July Arrows
The month of July continues to be an emotional time for rugby league, with all teams now supporting the move to celebrate scoring a try in July by "shooting a arrow" post try celebration. Its been great to see everyone embrace the idea. We are seeing other sports also joining in too, as everyone offers their support to his battle with this disease.
