Strong Defensive Display
The game opened with the Dogs throwing the kitchen sink at the Rabbitohs. But after a poor second half last week, it was our defense that was outstanding in the finals contention critical game. We were able to hold the Dogs scoreless for 60 minutes, which was a great effort, and set the scene for the match, in a good sign as we head into the business end of the season. The win along with other results have almost secured our Top 8 position. We still need 1 more win or a Dogs loss to make the finals, for the first time in 4 years. Now for a big game against the Warriors who are 3rd place, to see how we are really travelling.
Dufty Chiming In
Dufty has forced his way into the team as one of the form fullbacks at the moment. He regularly running in the high 200m per game, and his passing game is creating opportunities for wingers. After getting a opportunity whe Gray was injured, his good form is keeping him out. With South Sydney heading into the finals, his attack could be x factor we need.
Mazzone triple
Speed, speed and more speed. Jordi Mazzone showed why is one of the best try scorers in the Resere Grade again on the weekend. From scoring through cutout balls, burrowing over from dummy half or taking intecepts and running the length of the field, he knows how to find the tryline. But after 3 losses reserve grade have bowed out of the final race for 2026.
Jennings back
After a horrific injury it was great to see Dayne Jennings name read out in the U21 team list this week. The 21s sit just outside the Top 5 and need to win their next two games to try and qualify. Looking forward to a strong return this week.
McGregor strong display
It was real team effort by the womens team, as South Sydney continue their finals charge. We have moved into second place with another strong performance. McGregor put in another domaint performance with the boot and setting up tries. We are one win away from a final appearance.
Tackle the Referee modern rule flaw
One weekend a blant flaw was exposed when a Canterbury played tackled the referee when a try was being scoring. In the last time it occurred in a South Sydney game, Wayne Chisholm got 10 weeks when he was coming across and the attacker used the referee who was standing in defensive line as a shepard to score. On the weekend we saw something extra ordinary, Crichton was wrong footed by Hubner and then tackled the referee to nullify the current play and try. Insteand of the try being award and Crichton being sent off, he was rewarded by having the try disallowed, with the play reverted to the previous tackle. There was also no "contray conduct" charge by the Match Review Committee, which left every fan totally confused. In 2020 a rule change was introduced to address the ball being kicked into the referee. It was never intended to be used if a player tackles the referee. The NRL needs to look into this rule intepretation, everyone knew it should have been a suspension, and is now open for players and coaches to exploit.
