In a critical clash for both clubs in their fight to make the finals, this game was almost aa playoff for 8th position on the table, with 3 weeks to play in the regular season. South Sydney were under early pressure from the bulldogs. A great tackle by Wighton saved a try. Things were made worse when Elliott left the field in the 11th minute with a groin injury. Soon after it was Murray and Graahm who came up great try savers. After long periods of sustained pressure it was South Sydney who opened the scoring when Walker kicked in behind the line for Fifita to score. Sullivan converts. Dufty launched a attack from inside the 50m zone that saw Dufty send Grahm down the wing, this was followed by a big backline sweep that saw Walker send Duncan into gap before he linked with Johnston who scored his 26th try for the season. Sullivan failed to convert. As the half closed Canterbury were denied a try through a double movement, when he was tackled just short of the line. Then as the break was upon the team Walker and Dufty made a break up the middle and a chip kick saw the Dogs make a error and South Sydney were close to scoring. Halftime South Sydney lead 10 nil.
The Bulldogs dropped the ball immediately from the awkward kickoff by Dufty. Then two tackles later it was Dufty who sent Duncan over the first try of the second half. South Sydney were in again when a well placed kick by Sullivan saw Graham regather and score. Dufty fails to convert. South Sydney had justed out to a commanding 18 nil lead. South Sydney were denied another try when Walker put Johnston into a clear run to the line, only the pass to go forward. Canterbury finally broke the South Sydney line after 61 minutes when the scored on the last tackle in the corner. Hubner was denied a try under the posts when a bizare ruling from Crichton tackled the referee. Rather than being sent off and being put on report, play returned to the previous tackle. It brought back memories of the Wayne Chisholm tackle from 1988. Soon after, South Sydney were denied another try when Walker put Duncan over only to see the pass ruled forward. As the game was in its final minutes Dufty chimed into the line score out wide to warp up the game. South Sydney were almost in again when Graham and Wighton combined with a blind side play before Wighton kicked in goal for Dufty to ground the ball, on for the video referee to deny the try. South Sydney winning 22 to 6 in a high quality contest.

South Sydney were in again when Mazzone scored his second try try burrowing over outwide after cutting back in. Humphries failed to convert. Canterbury score through a well worked play on the left. A dropped ball by Fletcher sees Canterbury use the field position to score again out wide on the right. Halftime the Bulldogs lead 8 to 18. Bulldogs opened the scoring midway through the second half when a well worked forward play resulted in a try near the posts. THey had now skipped out to a commanding 8 to 24 point lead. South Sydney took on the 3rd placed Bulldogs, at Belmore Sports Ground with their new Centre of Excellence being built on the old hill. South Sydney opened the scoring when Hill with a nice short ball put Rooke over for a try. Cresswell converts. The Bulldogs hit back in a last tackle blind side attack. A penaly in front of the posts and Cresswell converts. A early dropped ball by Taua, and the Bulldogs score in the corner soon after. The Bulldogs made a break behind the ruck, and Lyons was sent to the sin bin for a professional foul. The Bulldogs scored soon after again soon after down the left. LEnoy-Sam left the field after a high shot, and soon after a cutout ball by Taj Alvarez saw Taua score in the corner. Cresswell failed to convert. Late in the half the Dogs were in again, going into the breal leading 12 to 22. AFter the break South Sydney almost scored through a Keung crash ball, only for him to drop the ball over the line. Soon after the Bulldogs gained field position through a 40-20 kick, and soon after scored from dummy half. A nicely worked blind side play saw Fota-Moala send Corbin Alvarez down the sideline and linking up with him, he passed back for him to score in the corner. Cresswell failed to convert. After working their up field, the Bulldogs forced teh drop out and scored soon after. A short kickoff saw South Sydney on the attack and clever kick regather and pass from Lua saw Cresswell score in the corner. Cresswell converts. But the Bulldogs hang to win 22 to 32.
