WIN 40-12
Adam Reynolds became the leading point scorer in South Sydney Rabbitohs history, breaking the record set by the great Eric Simms that endured 46 seasons as the Rabbitohs downed the Parramatta Eels 40 points to 12 on Friday evening. Cody Walker and Latrell Mitchell had 4 line break assists and 3 try assists between them as the Rabbitohs ran in 6 tries and Reynolds added 16 points to his total as the Rabbitohs ran out winners for the 9th game straight. The match began with semi-final-like intensity with both sides completing at 100 percent and trading shots in defence for the opening 20 minutes. One-on-one match-ups across the park took centre stage, with Mitchell vs Gutherson, Reynolds vs Moses, Cook vs Mahoney, and Gagai vs Opacic all having their moments. It was Cody Walker once again who was the creator for the Rabbitohs, facing off against Dylan Brown the Rabbitohs five-eighth put on a crafty play down the left edge for Josh Mansour to open the scoring in the 18th minute of play. The Eels looked as if they'd respond immediately building pressure on the Rabbitohs line following the first error of the match an uncharacteristic one from Cam Murray, but Jai Arrow made a try-saving tackle on Waqa Blake to repel the Parramatta side and the Rabbitohs made the most of it, this time with Latrell Mitchell delivering one of his customary cut out balls hitting Mansour for his second. Adam Reynolds nailed both conversions from the left touchline and added another two points from a penalty for an obstruction by Reed Mahoney just before the halftime break bringing the lead to 14 points at the break. Dane Gagai crossed early in the second half after a crafty kick from Cody Walker, and with the ensuing conversion, Adam Reynolds broke the record set by Simms of 1841 points to become the all-time point scorer in the history of the South Sydney Rabbitohs. The point scoring wasn't done for the night though, as Jaxson Paulo finished a play set up by a great interchange between milestone man Reynolds and Latrell Mitchell on the right-hand side, before Kaeon Koloamatagi and Cam Murray traded passes for Murray to cross the stripe in the 51st minute. Reynolds added to his towering tally nailing both conversions to make it a 32 point lead. Maika Sivo and Waqa Blake both crossed for the Parramatta Eels after finding some space through the Rabbitohs right-side defense later in the second half, but Jaxson Paulo hit back for the Rabbitohs with a trick play off the boot from Benji Marshal following a scrum, and fittingly, Adam Reynolds closed the scoring for the Rabbitohs with his 16th point of the match.
