A one time South Sydney Reserve Grade premiership winner in 2023, who also won the 2023 NRL Reserve Grade State Championship with South Sydney.
Thompson came through the St George-Illawarra junior system and played for the New South Wales U16s, however unable to cement a sot in the first grade team and off field incidents he retired from the game. After being retiring from football, and going off to work in a factory for 3 years, his weight had ballooned out to 140kg, Izaac was invited to trial with Souths by former Illawarra coach Jason Demetriou. Thompson worked on dropping his weight rapidly and regaining his fitness and was offered a train and trial contract. In 2022 his hard work paid off as he made his South Sydney reserve grade debut in the 2022 Round 1 clash against Canterbury-Bankstown at Belmore Sports Ground. After a standout season in 2022 he got his callup to make his NRL and South Sydney first grade premiership debut in the 2022 Round 21 clash against the Warriors at the Sunshine Coast Stadium.
Thompson is a powerful running winger with a ability to find the try line.
Thompson left in 2017 as the leading NSW Cup try scorer and upon return 5 years later did it again with South South Sydney in 2022.
In 2022 Thompson was awarded the NSWRL NSW Cup Winger of the Year.
