Wighton had a long distinguished career at Canberra before being lured over to South Sydney. Playing with a good friend in Latrell Mitchell was a incentive for him to come over. Wighton had already represented New South Wales and Australia, and had won the NRL Dally M player of the year before joining South Sydney. Wighton was charged in his final game for Canberra and had to serve a 3 match suspension before he could play the Rabbitohs. He made his belated South Sydney first grade premiership debut in the 2024 Round 3 clash against the Sydney Roosters at the new Sydney Football Stadium.
Wighton is a super fit strong running centre, who has the ability to play five-eighth. He has a strong long and short kick game.
Wighton made his South Sydney first grade premiership captaincy debut in the 2025 Round 15 clash against Canterbury-Bankstown at Stadium Australia.
In 2024 Wighton was awarded the George Piggins Medal as the best South Sydney first grade player of the year.
